MARKET READY-Take 1

Recap of Definition 1:

Always maintain a weight of within 10-15 lbs of your lowest sustained weight as an adult.

By sustained I further define a length of 5  years. That should be plenty of time for your body to know that weight and help you sustain it even with the modest increase allotted. For example if you have managed to maintain a weight of 125 lbs for 5 years or so you can easily dress to offset a 10-15 lb increase. I am not heartless here, I know life happens and food is really good so I gave you that extra 5 lbs when I should have capped it at 10!  🙂 Looks fade, fit (notice I didn’t say skinny) is forever!

Side note: I had lunch with my girlfriend today and we were talking about the concept of Market Readyand especially this segment. And previously on a girl’s weekend, last weekend, we talked about this segment in detail as well. I need to address first and foremost and with the utmost clarification the “weight” classification is individual to every woman!!! There is no one size fits all in this part of the definition. Every woman is as unique as a snowflake and just as beautiful and intricate. And secondly, no matter how we try to fight it, we live in a visual world…wake up, smell the coffee and accept it!! There doesn’t that feel good!! With that being said maintaining your weight in this segment is not an aesthetics thing, ENTIRELY. In fact aesthetics takes a very far pace behind HEALTH which is followed by CONFIDENCE then aesthetics. Side note complete, if you are still with me than please proceed 🙂

I am a firm believer that true confidence comes from the outside in, yes you read that correctly. [Have you ever walked into a room with your best outfit on, every hair in place, your makeup flawless and you feel like you can do anything and everything, internalize that feeling, feel it, now proceed.] Think of what I just said in the context of a piece of fruit. A nice ripe orange looks good on the outside and you just know on the inside it is brimming with vitality giving Vitamin C and fresh juice. Conversely, a rotten piece of fruit looks unappealing and you know that inside is sour juice. The same goes for us women, though you can’t judge an entire book by its cover you can be pretty darn sure a vital, bright looking woman on the outside is more than likely healthy on the inside. So let me bring that point back around to maintaining your LOWEST sustained adult weight within the 10-15 lb gain limit. If you can sustain a weight for a minimum of 5 years into adulthood you pretty much know what your BMI (body mass index) is; your lipid profile levels (cholesterol) are and all the pertinent tests results that come with tests determined for your age bracket by your physician. Knowing these numbers and having maintained the weight for that period of time equates to success!! You have already done the hard part! The 10-15 lb differential is just mere fun at this point. You go up a pound or two or ten you know how to get back on track, I like to consider it a game with myself.

If by chance you need to find or get to your sustainable weight, these three tips may help:

  1. Find a LIFETIME eating plan, NOT I Repeat NOT a fad diet! One that contains plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and good dairy which in my opinion is yogurt. I have dabbled in a few “fads” over the years with the most recent being a lean protein diet and though I lost a lot of weight I gained 30 points in cholesterol. The minute I reversed my diet and went back to a fresh fruit and veggie life diet those 30 points effortlessly disappeared. I have researched a lot of diets over the years and have watched my friends go through many of them and I really think the Weight Watchers plan is one of the best!
  2.  Find a LIFETIME exercise plan, NOT I Repeat NOT a fad exercise plan! Again, as I stated in my bio I have been a Certified Group Exercise Instructor since 1998, so I know a wee bit of what I speak about here! I have taught the gamut of classes: step; hi-lo; interval training; line-dancing (my fav); pilates and I am sure many more I either forgot on purpose or just plain forgot. The secret, now listen closely, is finding something you love to do and are you ready for this: DO IT! And do it consistently, forever! Let me further define forever: not for a day, a month or even a year…you following me on this! 🙂 The most important muscle in that gorgeous body of yours is your Heart, be good to it!
  3. Find a LIFETIME personal style, NOT I Repeat NOT a fad personal style! The caveat being you find a fad that you really love and stick to it and make it your lifetime personal style. Let me explain further. I found out my personal style is the lady of the house, a doctor’s wife as my friend Nay used to say to explain my style. Classic black or navy suits, turtleneck sweaters, wool jackets, very Talbotish if you will. Though I have played with styles over the years I always come back to my personal style, the one that makes me feel like a million bucks! Think back over the years I bet you already have one!

Join me next time as we explore definition 2: Know how to cook, bake, boil water–something related to food! Until then remember life is the market, be ready! On to MARKET READY-Take 2!
