An Article About Nothing Yet Everything

Puzzle of Life

The other day at work, I took a second to pray and asked for perspective on something that has plagued me for a very long time. I went on about my day and a few hours later I swear God said “hold my beer” and delivered that perspective. That perspective came in the form of a text message delivering the most unimaginable news about a dear & cherished loved one. In a millisecond I realized what has plagued me is a gift—perspective. “Man plans, God laughs”.

I have always had an impatience with life, a—Do It Now—tomorrow is not promised attitude. I am not sure if this type of attitude has served me well or impeded me in any way; either way I don’t care. There are some aspects of my personality I prefer to let live on their own accord without my constant scrutiny. The one thing I do know for sure is that whether we are given 100 years of life, 20 or anywhere in between, they are not to be wasted. What anyone deems as wasted is totally up to them. “Man plans, God laughs”.

I have always had or at least as long as I can remember, the dream to live by the ocean. The ocean brings me peace. And as I reach yet another birthday, another year of life gone, I want to live that dream each and every day for the rest of my life. Recently, that dream has been set into motion. My wish is to see that to fruition. “Man plans, God laughs”.

There is a quote from the movie Prince of Tides, “it is the mystery of life that sustains me now”. I used to push so hard against the tide of the way I thought my life should be. The more I pushed, the more the tide redirected me to safer shores. The ones that were meant for me. I look at this thing we call life as one big puzzle to solve, just out of reach of completion when one piece doesn’t fit. Maybe it isn’t supposed to be completed as if we are all puzzle pieces that fit into different puzzles at different times in our lives. “Man plans, God laughs”.
